The U.S. Physical Activity Guidelines name dancing as aerobic activity for kids, alongside running, swimming and jumping rope, from preschool through the teen years.

The ask for kids 6 to 17 is "60 minutes (1 hour) or more of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity daily," and the guidelines say it should be activity kids enjoy. As kids become teenagers they "typically reduce their physical activity," which the guidelines say makes enjoyable options all the more important.

The guidelines are about moving in any way kids enjoy. For a lot of kids, that's dance, and a weekly class is a great start.

Here are twelve places nearby to start, sorted by what your dancer wants out of it.
