Dance tuition, the Nutcracker production, and summer camps are priced separately.

  • Fall/spring tuition is monthly and set by weekly class length: first class $80 (½ hr), $90 (45 min), $99 (1 hr), $123.75 (1¼ hr), or $148.50 (1½ hr); each additional class $69 to $120 on the same scale.
  • Monthly tuition is capped per family — $465 for one dancer, $655 for two, $865 for three.
  • A fall/spring membership fee applies: $65 first child, $45 each additional ($55/$45 for returning students).
  • The summer program is a separate 7-week session: first class $140–$260, each additional $120.75–$210, with a summer membership of $45 per family ($35 returning).
  • Summer camps run $279 each if paid by February 28 or $299 after March 1, with 10% off the second camp on.
  • Costume fees run $130–$245 per class type, and a recital package fee of about $245–$250 per child applies for participants.
  • Nutcracker auditions cost $10, non-refundable. A cast dancer then pays a $195 participation fee for a first role ($150 for an additional child's first role, $25 per additional role) plus a $135 costume fee per role.
  • Nutcracker cast families are also required to sell $50 of program ads and a minimum of ten lowest-tier show tickets — $50 and $197.50 respectively are charged to the family account if unmet — along with twenty $5 raffle tickets and one fundraising activity.
  • A 3.5% convenience fee is added to credit-card payments; the Nutcracker packet quotes bank-draft rates.

What's offered

Recreational and competitive dance for ages 2 to adult across ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, lyrical, pom, hip hop, and ballroom, at the Southlake studio (with sibling studios in Keller and Coppell). Recreational classes are designed for dancers who want to learn without competition stress; a competitive dance program (ages 5–18, multiple levels), several performing companies (DNA Creatives, Infinite Soul, MOVZ, The PACT, and a Drill Company), and drill-team prep are available for those who want more. The studio also offers an acting studio and private music lessons. The dance season runs August–June, with summer camps and intensives in June–July. A free trial class is offered to new students. The studio also hosts North Texas Youth Ballet's Nutcracker, the non-profit community ballet group directed by studio owner Dana Bailey; auditions are open to all ages and levels with no advance sign-up, and roles are assigned at the end of each audition.

Our take

Dana's is the closest thing Southlake dance has to an institution — more than thirty years in, having taught thousands of local dancers. What makes it work for a wide range of families is that it deliberately serves both ends of the spectrum: its recreational classes are built for kids who want to learn and love dance without the stress of competition, while a full competitive program (ages 5–18) and several performing companies sit right there for the ones who catch the bug. You don't have to pick a lane on day one.

The range of styles is broad — ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, lyrical, pom, hip hop, ballroom — and one genuinely distinctive thing is the boys' program, which the studio says offers more classes for boys than any other in the area, with alumni who've danced professionally. It's owned by Dana Bailey with a large faculty of working dance professionals, and it runs an acting studio and private music lessons on the side; it's well-reviewed by a large number of local families, and was named a Reader's Choice best dance studio by 76092 Magazine. If you want a tiny boutique studio with one teacher, this is a bigger, busier operation; if you want depth, range, and a clear path from first class through competition, it's a strong fit. The dance season runs August through June, with summer camps and intensives after.

Local Tips

The Southlake studio is on West Southlake Boulevard, and it's one of three Dana's locations — Southlake, Keller, and Coppell. A few things worth knowing:

  • The floors are professionally installed floating floors (built to protect against concrete-injury), and while parents aren't allowed inside the classroom during class, there are observation windows and lobby TVs showing each room, plus scheduled Parent Observation Weeks each semester.
  • Start new dancers with the free trial class, and register early — popular classes and times fill fast.
  • Tuition, costume, and recital fees add up, so ask for the full fee schedule before the season.
Carroll ISD Connection

Dana's has a genuine, if informal, tie to the local schools: it runs drill-team prep aimed at helping dancers make their high-school drill teams, its weather closures follow the local school districts, and a longtime staff member spent 15 years working for Carroll ISD as a district administrator. For a Carroll ISD family, that means a studio a short drive from home that understands the drill-team pipeline Dragon dancers aim for. The tie is practical and about drill team rather than a formal district partnership.

Credentials

Dana's Studio of Dance was founded by Dana Bailey, who holds a degree in Radio, Television and Film from Texas Christian University (cum laude) and brings a professional performance background in film and commercial work; a 2019 Community Impact profile covers her as the studio's owner. The studio has operated for over three decades and is staffed by a large faculty of working dance professionals across its three locations — including ballet, drill, competition, and company directors with collegiate and professional credentials (university dance degrees, drill-team and professional-dance-team experience, and choreography and competition backgrounds). Instruction spans ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, lyrical, pom, hip hop, and ballroom.
