Our take

Studio 12's useful trait is that it does two things well that usually live at different studios. On one side are its competition teams — The MVMNT Company and the Floor Invasion Dance Crew — which compete locally and nationally and pull down first-place finishes; on the other is The Rec, an explicitly low-commitment recreational program for dancers who are new or just want to train without the competitive grind. For a family that isn't sure yet whether their kid is headed for the competition circuit or just loves to move, one studio that credibly serves both is the draw.

The class menu is broad — ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, contemporary, lyrical, acro, tumbling, and musical theater, plus drill-team and collegiate prep. The competition tracks are selective and serious (ages 4 through 19), while The Rec stays open to all levels. It's an independent, family-run studio rather than a chain, and the culture that comes through is high-achieving on the team side and welcoming on the rec side. If you want a purely casual, once-a-week-forever studio with no competitive presence at all, the intensity here may be more than you want; if you want room to grow into competition, it's a strong fit. A trial class is the easy way to test it.

Local Tips

Studio 12 is on Greenbriar Drive. A few practical notes:

  • There's no phone number published anywhere — all contact runs through email (studio12dc@gmail.com), so plan to reach out that way to schedule a trial class.
  • Class hours are evenings Monday through Thursday plus a long Sunday block, which suits families stacking dance after school and on weekends.
  • Decide up front which track you're after — the competition teams (MVMNT, FIDC) are selective and demanding, while The Rec is the pressure-free option — because they're run quite differently.
