What's offered

Summer season only (~8 weeks; 2026: Tue May 26–Fri Jul 17). Practices Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri by age group — Senior Development (7th–12th gr) 8:20–9:50 am; ages 9–12 10:00–11:00 am; ages 5–8 11:10 am–12:00 pm. Summer-league meets Wednesday mornings (five June–July dates) at Southridge Lakes Neighborhood Pool, two age-group sessions. Learn-to-swim lessons run in multiple summer sessions at Bent Creek; contact the coach for lesson dates.

Our take

For twenty summers the Timarron Tigersharks have turned the neighborhood's Bent Creek pool into a morning swim factory — around 280 kids, ages five to seventeen, learning to race between the end of the school year and mid-July. What sets it apart from a generic learn-to-swim program is the coaching lineage. Head Coach Kevin Murphy runs the Southlake Carroll High School swim team, and the assistants he brings to Bent Creek are current and former Carroll swimmers. Families who want their kids in the Carroll swimming world eventually tend to start here.

It's a summer-league team, not a year-round competitive club, and that shapes who it fits. The season is eight weeks; practices run four mornings a week by age group; meets are Wednesday mornings against other neighborhood teams. Newcomers who can dog-paddle safely are welcomed into the youth groups, and stronger swimmers push stroke work with the senior developmental group through twelfth grade. If you want a low-commitment, one-season introduction to competitive swimming close to home — with a coach who knows exactly where the sport goes next in this town — it's a natural first step.

One practical note: registration opens in March and the learn-to-swim sessions fill quickly, so if you're planning a first summer, get on the calendar early rather than waiting for the start of summer.

Local Tips
  • The team swims out of the Timarron Bent Creek pool — parking is at the Bent Creek clubhouse, not a public lot.
  • Summer-league meets aren't at Bent Creek: they're Wednesday mornings across Southlake Blvd (1709) at the Southridge Lakes Neighborhood Pool, right by the Carroll ISD Elise Cerami Aquatics Center.
  • Team suits, caps, and the short rubber fins every 5–12-year-old needs come from D&J Sports, and the outfitting dates land in late April — miss them and you're calling D&J directly.
  • Registration opens in March and the lesson sessions fill fast.
Carroll ISD Connection

About as direct a Carroll tie as a summer team gets. Head Coach Kevin Murphy also runs the Southlake Carroll HS men's swim program and staffs the Tigersharks with current Carroll varsity swimmers and former All-State and All-American Dragon alumni. Plenty of Tigershark kids go the other way too — from Bent Creek mornings to JV and varsity Dragon swimming, a few on to state titles and college teams. For many Timarron families it's the on-ramp to Carroll swimming.

Credentials

Head Coach & Director Kevin Murphy has coached swimming since 1979 and holds a BS in Physical Education (University of Tulsa). Texas Certified Teacher; head coach of the Southlake Carroll High School swim team (10 boys'/5 girls' state titles); CPR- and AED-certified. Assistant staff is drawn from current and former Carroll high-school and college swimmers, and a Red Cross–certified lifeguard is on deck at every practice.
