The Stix Baseball Club is a competitive youth travel-baseball organization, and one of the larger ones in Texas — it fields dozens of select teams from roughly 7u up through 18u. The distinction that matters is right up front: this is select ball you try out for, built around player development and college placement, not a recreational league you simply sign up for. Established in 2005, the club moved its headquarters from Grapevine to Southlake in 2023, and its home base is Top Prospect Academy, an indoor training facility on Market Loop — year-round indoor reps are the main draw. Teams are organized by graduating class and by regional division across the DFW area, and the club has a long, steady record of moving players on to college baseball, and less often to the pros. For a Southlake family, the fit question is commitment level: if your kid wants serious, year-round competitive baseball and is ready to earn a roster spot at tryouts, it's a strong option; if you're after a low-key first season of the sport, this isn't that.

Local Tips

The home base is Top Prospect Academy at 2870 Market Loop — an indoor practice facility the Stix share with the academy (tpabaseball.com), and the year-round indoor training is the club's real differentiator in DFW weather. The way in is tryouts: the club runs fall tryouts and registration through its LeagueApps portal, and teams are set by graduation year, so where a player lands turns on age and how the tryout goes. A few practical things worth knowing:

  • It's a travel program, so plan on tournament travel and a real time-and-cost commitment beyond a local season.
  • Teams are grouped into regional divisions — DFW, North, Northwest, East, South, Southeast and West — so ask which division and which age-group director your player would be under. Each division lists its own director and a club email on the tryouts page.
  • If you want a look before committing, the club runs a showcase camp and Fall Development Days. The Development Day format is published: live at-bats and machine-pitch games, position-specific skill work, and a competitive game the staff evaluate.
  • Training isn't only on-field. The club posts a pre-season conditioning program — sprints, wall sits, and a graded throwing and long-toss progression built with the academy's performance staff — plus an Academics/Aid page pointing families at NCAA Clearinghouse, Federal Student Aid and ACT/SAT test dates.
  • Southlake is the home base, but the club also lists a partner facility, Sandlot Baseball Academy in Cleburne — about an hour south, so worth asking whether any of your player's training would happen there.

The Stix Baseball Club is owned and run by Nick Heitz and Shane Davenport, who also serve as club directors. The club requires USA Baseball coaching certification and background checks for its staff.
