What's offered

Open seven days a week, year-round, with junior and adult programs running alongside each other.

Juniors (ages 5 to 18) are grouped by age band and then by skill level, 1 through 4/5, rather than by age alone. New players start at Level 1 and pass a skills test to advance, or can request a 30-minute evaluation for higher placement. Classes cap at 8 players per instructor and need 4 to form. School-year classes run afternoons and Saturday mornings, from the first week of school through May:

  • Ages 5 to 8: 4:00 PM
  • Ages 9 to 10: 5:00 PM
  • Ages 11 to 13: 6:00 PM
  • Saturday mornings

Each session includes Match Days by level and closes with a World Tour tournament. Middle School/JV Tennis trains players for school-team match play and tryouts. Two invitation-only tracks sit above that:

  • Ages 11 to 14, middle-school team and tournament players (UTR 1 to 2): Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30 to 7:00 PM
  • Tournament Level drop-in drills, for active USTA/UTR competitors: Monday to Thursday, 5:00 to 7:00 PM

Summer runs week-long morning camps plus weekly evening and Saturday classes, late May through mid-August.

Adults have drills (1 or 1.5 hours, capped at 8, registered by NTRP level), leagues and team play, private lessons, and boot camps. In-house leagues run four times a year, each session typically 7 to 9 weeks, with registration online or at the Pro Shop desk when it opens. The posted Fall 2026 league grid:

  • Men's 2.5-3.0 | 3.0-4.0 progressive doubles: Mondays 7:00 PM
  • Women's 3.0-3.5 set partner and Women's 2.5-3.0 | 3.0-3.5 progressive: Tuesdays, 7:00 PM and 9:00 AM
  • Women's 3.5 set partner: Wednesdays 7:00 PM
  • Women's 2.0-2.5 round robin and Women's 2.5-3.0 set partner: Thursdays 7:00 PM

Beyond the in-house leagues the center hosts over 30 NETT, TCD and USTA teams, which are self-formed and must keep a roster at least half Southlake residents. The Fall 2026 adult league season runs September 7 to November 15, with registration closed since August 28.

Boot camps are limited to 4 players per court and divided by level. Court reservations are by phone only. Youth programming generally follows CISD weather closures; adult programming continues unless the center notifies players.

Our take

Nineteen courts, and the membership is free. Southlake Tennis Center is the city's own facility inside Bicentennial Park, and it has the trophy case of a private club — USTA National Facility of the Year, PTR Facility of the Year, USTA Premier Facility. Twenty-seven years in, it's still a public park amenity: anyone can join, resident or not, at no cost, and court time runs a few dollars a head. Club-grade coaching at park-district pricing is the reason it's here.

The junior program is the serious part, and it's worth understanding before you enroll. Kids move by skill, not by age — new players start at Level 1 and pass a skills test to move up, and the ladder climbs to invitation-only tracks for kids playing USTA and UTR tournaments. That's a real pathway, and it isn't a casual one. The school-year program auto-enrolls your player after the first session, make-ups happen only when the center cancels a class, and once classes start there are no refunds. Worth reading before you sign up, not after.

For a family that just wants to hit, none of that applies. Join, call the front desk, pay the court fee, play. That's the quiet advantage of a place the city built: the beginner and the kid chasing a UTR rating are on the same 19 courts, and neither one is subsidizing the other.

Local Tips

It's inside Bicentennial Park on W Southlake Blvd — the same park as the city's pickleball complex, so on a busy weekend you're sharing the lot. Booking is what catches new players out:

  • Check in at the front desk before you go to your court. That isn't a formality here, it's the rule, and it applies to lessons and leagues too.
  • You can't book online — court reservations are by phone only, because availability shifts through the day, so call the front desk with every player's name ready.
  • Residents book seven days ahead; non-residents get two.
  • The two indoor courts are the exception worth planning around: 1.5-hour blocks, an extra indoor fee on top of court fees, and no cancellation once you've booked. Outdoor bookings need 24 hours' notice.

Small stuff that saves a trip:

  • Water isn't provided on court, so bring a bottle.
  • Junior players buy a Player Equipment Bag at the start of each school year and are expected to bring it to every lesson.
  • Non-marking soles, and shirts that cover the midriff, are required.
  • Personal ball machines aren't allowed, though you can rent the center's Playmate by the hour if you're 18 or older.
  • When the lightning alarm sounds, everyone clears the outdoor courts until the all-clear.
Carroll ISD Connection

This one is real, not proximity. Southlake Tennis Center is a Carroll ISD-approved provider for Off-Campus PE — the district program that lets a student take approved outside instruction in place of a school PE class. Most players enroll under Category II, which means five hours of tennis a week at the center during the school year: typically two classes, match play, and a one-hour workout. The junior coordinator is the contact for the paperwork side of it.

The calendar ties in too. Youth programming generally follows CISD weather closures — if the district closes, junior classes usually follow, while adult programming carries on unless the center says otherwise. And the Middle School/JV class is built for exactly what it sounds like: kids already on a middle school team, kids playing JV, and kids trying to make one.

The center sits in the 76092 corridor inside Bicentennial Park, a couple of miles down W Southlake Blvd from Carroll Senior High School — close enough that a Dragon can be on court not long after dismissal.

Credentials

Southlake Tennis Center is a City of Southlake Parks & Recreation facility, open since 1999. Mia Gordon-Poorman is the General Manager and Stephen Poorman is the Director of Tennis. Nick Heldman is the Junior Coordinator, and Craig Karseno is the Head Pro Shop Manager.

The teaching staff are certified members of the Professional Tennis Registry and USTA Coaching, and are Safe Play certified. Junior coaching staff additionally carry USTA Coaching, PTR, RSPA, and Safe Play certification, and take ongoing training focused on tennis-specific child development. The center carries a full teaching roster across junior and adult programs, plus pro shop and racquet-stringing staff.

The facility has been recognized as a USTA Premier Facility, USTA National Facility of the Year, PTR Facility of the Year, Section Industry of the Year, Public Facility of the Year, and Outstanding Facility.

Instruction is restricted by facility rule: only Southlake Tennis Center team members and authorized instructors may provide lessons or training on site, so outside coaches may not teach on the courts.
