Our take

Red Door runs six escape rooms in Southlake, each a 60-minute game, and every booking is private, so your group never shares a room with strangers. The rooms are rated from 6 to 9 out of 10 for difficulty. Once Upon a Time, a two-room fantasy at 6/10, is the one the company marks as best for families and first-time players; the 9/10 rooms are pitched at experienced players.

A visit runs about an hour and a half with the briefing and debrief. The first door in every room is always unlocked, and the rooms are built to be challenging rather than physically confining. The venue also has a live game-show room for 6 to 16 players.

Schools and homeschool groups can book STEM field-trip packages here, built for students aged 7 to 13 in groups of about 10 to 30.

Local Tips

The age rules decide who goes in with the kids, so read them before you book.

  • Players 11 and under need an adult in the room. That adult plays free.
  • Ages 12 to 16 can play on their own, as long as an adult stays on site or in the shopping center and can be reached.
  • A parent signs a waiver for anyone under 18.
  • Start young or first-time players in the 6/10 room. Once Upon a Time is the one Red Door recommends for families.
  • Arrive 15 minutes early so the game gets its full hour.
  • Bring a card. The venue is cashless, and bookings are non-refundable unless you add cancellation protection.
