What's offered

Year-round multi-sport arena:

  • Learn to Skate — six-week sessions, 30-minute classes on Fridays and Sundays (levels from Snowplow Sam through Basic, plus Learn to Play Hockey and adult classes).
  • Hockey — youth, junior, and adult leagues (Jr. Brahmas, the Dallas Stars Metro Hockey League house program, and the adult Legends League). The hockey season runs September through April; house hockey takes skaters from age 6 and everyone who attends an evaluation skate is placed on a team, while travel hockey from 10U up holds try-outs in late June.
  • Mini-Mites and Jr. Bruisers — a 55-minute station-based class for beginner hockey players ages 5–16, grouped by skill and age, run in six-session blocks on Sundays. Skaters move up to it after completing a Learn to Skate hockey level, and the rink points graduates on to the Texans Hockey Academy.
  • Figure skating organized through the Competitors Club, which runs six-session blocks at Bronze/Silver and Gold, an advanced adult class, and a Tuesday USFS Moves class. Each block pairs an on-ice hour with an off-ice hour, and skaters can take one day a week or both. The adult class needs Learn to Skate Adult high plus the skating director's approval; USFS Moves needs a Basic 6 pass.
  • Volleyball (Integrity Volleyball Club) and box lacrosse run seasonally; the West rink converts to indoor turf from roughly May through August.
  • Public skate — a lunchtime session Friday to Sunday, 12:15–1:30 PM, and Friday Night Ice, 6:45–8:15 PM.
  • Birthday parties book a party suite on the weekend, 11 AM–12 PM or 1:30–2:30 PM Saturday and Sunday, or 5:45–6:45 PM on a Friday night.

Our take

NYTEX Sports Centre is a family-owned, independent multi-sport arena in North Richland Hills, best known as the "Home of the Brahmas" junior hockey teams. At its core it's an ice facility — two rinks, one of which converts to a full indoor turf field from spring into summer — but it runs well beyond hockey. On the ice it offers Learn to Skate for beginners from age three, youth house and travel hockey (including the Dallas Stars Metro Hockey League), junior and adult leagues, figure skating through its Competitors Club, and regular public-skate sessions. Off the ice, its Olympic Hall hosts volleyball, and it runs a seasonal box-lacrosse series and a seven-week summer camp. It's an independent, locally run operation rather than a chain rink, and it's the home ice for several area high school hockey programs. For a Southlake family, it's a genuinely multi-sport venue about twenty minutes away — a place a kid can learn to skate, play organized hockey or volleyball, or just show up for a public skate.

  • It's an independent, family-owned arena, not part of a chain — worth knowing if you prefer a locally run rink.
  • Front-desk hours run Monday–Friday 10am–9pm and weekends 8am–10:30pm; public skate includes a Friday Night Ice session, a near-daily lunchtime skate, and discounted Half-Off Wednesdays, so check which session fits before you go.
  • There are two rinks, and the West rink converts to a regulation indoor turf field from roughly May through August — handy for off-season soccer, lacrosse, and dry-land training.
  • Program fees are posted (public skate, Learn to Skate, house hockey, camp, parties), but court and indoor-turf rentals are quoted on request — you'll need to contact the centre for rental rates.

Carroll ISD Connection

NYTEX has a direct, concrete tie to Carroll ISD: it is the home rink for Southlake Carroll ISD high school hockey, along with Birdville and Keller ISD programs, through the AT&T Metroplex High School Hockey League. So for a Carroll ISD hockey family, this is where the high school team plays and practices — not just a nearby rink but the program's actual home ice. Beyond that, its box-lacrosse series is run with associations covering Southlake and the surrounding communities. It sits in North Richland Hills, about a twenty-minute drive from Southlake.

Credentials

NYTEX is family-owned and operated by Frank and Salvatore Trazzera, and it runs its programs with named hockey and skating leadership — a Director of Hockey Programs, a rink manager and Learn to Skate director, and a Director of Ice Skating — plus a credentialed figure-skating coaching staff. Several of its skating coaches bring competitive and professional résumés: one is a U.S. Figure Skating double gold medalist and 2013 U.S. Championship competitor, and another holds a PSA Master rating. Hockey is coached through its own program staff, including coaches who came up through the club as players.
