What's offered

Girls' lacrosse for grades 1 through 12, run as two seasons a year — a fall season and a spring season, with fall registration opening in the summer and closing in mid-September.

Practice load steps up with grade:

  • Grades 1–2 — an hour, twice a week.
  • Grades 3–4 — an hour and a quarter, twice a week.
  • Grades 5–8 — an hour and a half, twice a week.
  • High school — three times a week, an hour and a half.

There is a short parent meeting at the start of the first youth practice. A current USA Lacrosse membership is required before registering and is validated inside the registration form, so it is a separate purchase to make first.

Registration is open to players of all skill levels, but eligibility is zoned: players who attend a Carroll ISD school qualify, as do players whose residence is zoned to Carroll ISD but who are homeschooled or attend a private or charter school with no girls' lacrosse team of its own, and residents of Trophy Club or Westlake outside Keller ISD. Families in other communities are asked to register with their own zoned program first, and to approach LDL only if that program cannot field a team. Playing in the fall does not automatically carry eligibility into the spring.

Games · Fall season runs through the end of October, typically about four game days. Play is at city and district fields — North Park, Southlake Sports Complex, Carroll Middle School, and Carroll High School.

The club runs a free Try-It Clinic for girls in grades 1–8 before the fall season — an hour of introductory fundamentals at Carroll High School (800 N. White Chapel Blvd), with no prior experience or equipment needed. The 2026 clinic was held in late August; the club announces it on Facebook and Instagram rather than on its website.

Our take

Lady Dragon Lacrosse is the girls' side of youth lacrosse in Southlake — the boys' program is a separate association — and it runs the whole span, grades one through twelve, under one organization. That range is the point of it: a first grader starting with a stick she has never held and a senior playing in the Texas Girls High School Lacrosse League are in the same club, and the step up happens without changing programs. Registration is explicitly open to players of all skill levels, and the youth season is deliberately modest — a handful of game days between early September and the end of October — so a beginner is not committing to much before finding out whether she likes it.

Who can play is unusually specific, and worth checking before anything else. Eligibility follows the state youth and high school league bylaws, which tie it to Carroll ISD: a girl qualifies if she attends a CISD school, or if her home is zoned to CISD but she is homeschooled or attends a private or charter school with no girls' lacrosse team of its own. Trophy Club and Westlake residents outside Keller ISD also qualify. Families anywhere else are asked to try their own zoned program first and to come to LDL only if that program cannot field a team — a rule the club follows to stay compliant rather than one it chose.

The commitment scales honestly with age. Grades one and two practice an hour twice a week; by fifth grade that is ninety minutes twice a week, and the high school team trains three times a week. The high school side is coached by a former Ohio State player who has coached at the NCAA Division I level and started a girls' program at another Texas high school, and the club publishes a list of alumni who have gone on to play in college. Every coach clears USA Lacrosse abuse-prevention training and a national background screening.

Local Tips

There is no single home field: the club plays across North Park, the Southlake Sports Complex, Carroll Middle School and Carroll High School, all of them borrowed from the city or the district, so where you go depends on the week rather than the club. A few things worth sorting out before you register:

  • The registration fee is not posted anywhere on the site — it only appears once you sign in and reach the payment step, so the advertised early-bird deadline arrives without a number attached; start a registration early enough to see the price.
  • Two costs sit outside that fee: a current USA Lacrosse membership has to be bought first, from USA Lacrosse, before the club's own form will let you finish, and practice pinnies are ordered separately afterwards through the uniform coordinator.
  • Pinnies cover fall games only: if your daughter continues into the spring season, a game uniform is required — a second purchase that catches families who assume fall gear carries over.
  • Playing in the fall does not automatically make her eligible for the spring, so treat the two seasons as separate registrations rather than one year.
  • Registering two or more siblings in a single sitting earns one family discount; splitting them across separate sessions forfeits it entirely.
  • The refund window is short and firm: requests must be in writing to the board before the end of the first week of practice, and nothing is refunded after that.
  • Weather cancellations follow Carroll ISD — if the district calls off after-school activities, the club does too, which means the answer is usually already public before the club sends anything.
Carroll ISD Connection

This is about as tightly bound to Carroll ISD as a club program gets without being run by the district. The connection is not proximity or a shared field but eligibility itself: the roster is drawn from girls who attend Carroll schools, or who live in CISD-zoned homes while attending a private, charter, or home school without its own girls' team, plus Trophy Club and Westlake residents outside Keller ISD. Play happens on facilities the club describes as provided by Carroll ISD and the City of Southlake, including Carroll Middle School and Carroll High School, and the club follows the district's lead on weather — when Carroll ISD cancels after-school activities, LDL cancels too.

Credentials

Lady Dragon Lacrosse is run by a volunteer board — president Beth Etheredge, with separate athletic directors for the high school and youth sides and a youth coordinator for grades 1–4 — and is affiliated with USA Lacrosse, the sport's national governing body, under member number 000009285880. The high school head coach is Rainey Hodgson, a four-year letter winner and senior-year captain at Ohio State who coached NCAA Division I lacrosse as a student assistant there and as an assistant at Coastal Carolina, and who started the girls' lacrosse program at Lovejoy High School in Texas. High school assistant coach Meg Salvadore played defense at Georgetown, and high school assistant coach Jerry DeCarlo played at John Paul II High School in Plano and the University of North Texas. On the youth side, the club announced Brynn Belmont in August 2026 as its 5/6 assistant coach, describing her as a former Division I attacker at George Mason University, a two-time Under Armour All-American and a four-year starter at Flower Mound High School, who has recently earned a BS in Kinesiology. All coaches must complete USA Lacrosse's Abuse Prevention Training and pass a background screening through the National Center for Safety Initiatives.
