Drop-in care is billed by the minute at an hourly rate, and every child pays a yearly registration fee. The Southlake rates:

  • Hourly: $16 an hour, $9 for an additional sibling and $5 for a third sibling or more; infants under 18 months are $18 an hour. Registration is $35 per child per year.
  • Daily (6 to 8 hours, ages 2 to 12): $105 for one child, $170 for two, $210 for three and $245 for four; members pay $95, $160, $200 and $235.
  • Students: $13 an hour, $7 for an additional child and $15 for infants and toddlers, with proof of student status renewed each semester.
  • Membership: $99 a year per family. It waives the registration fee, discounts the daily rates and Sunday birthday-party rentals, gives early access to theme-night registration, and is required for the monthly programs.
  • Monthly programs (2 to 5 days a week): Babies Day Inn $655 to $1,415, Tiny Trails Inn $595 to $1,325, Little Learners Inn $565 to $1,225. Missed days are still billed.

Card payments carry a processing fee.

What's offered

Kids Inn is hourly, drop-in child care for children from 6 weeks to 12 years: register once, then reserve through the Kids Inn app and drop off when you need to. Drop-in care is capped at 8 hours a day and 24 hours a week, and is first-come, first-served. The center publishes a tentative daily routine for each room (mixed ages, and infants and toddlers) of story time, rotating centers, arts and crafts, outdoor play, snacks and a quiet or nap time after lunch.

Families who want set days instead can enroll in one of three monthly programs, which run 7:30 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday, on two to five days a week of your choosing:

  • Babies Day Inn: babies 6 to 18 months, with younger infants accommodated.
  • Tiny Trails Inn: toddlers 18 to 36 months.
  • Little Learners Inn: children 3 to 5.

Program families are not held to the drop-in hour limits. The programs are a monthly commitment with a month's notice, and they require the yearly membership.

Camps
Dates

Kids Inn runs winter-break, spring-break and summer camps for ages 5 to 12, 8 AM to 5 PM each camp day. Camp weeks are listed by location in the Kids Inn parent portal, which needs a family account to view.

Cost

Camp pricing varies by location and camp and is listed in the parent portal. Camps include snacks, meals, a weekly community-partnership visit and, in summer, a weekly splash day; siblings get 10% off.

Our take

Kids Inn is child care by the hour. You register once, reserve a spot through its app and drop off when you need to; the company names an appointment, a meeting, an event or simply time to yourself. You are billed by the minute your child is checked in, and you don't have to be back at the exact time you estimated. It stays open into the evening on weekdays and later still on Fridays and Saturdays.

That makes it a fit for families whose need is irregular rather than daily. Drop-in care is capped at eight hours a day and 24 hours a week, so it is not a stand-in for full-time daycare. Families who want set days can sign up for one of three monthly programs instead, for babies, toddlers or three-to-fives, on two to five weekdays.

The Southlake center is the company's only Texas site; its others are in Missouri and Kansas.

Local Tips

The center runs on a few house rules, and they shape drop-off more than the hours do.

  • Register before your first visit, then reserve in the Kids Inn app. Drop-in care is first-come, first-served.
  • Call ahead for a baby or toddler. For children from 6 months to 2 years, Kids Inn asks families to confirm there is space in the infant and toddler room before dropping off.
  • It's a shoeless center. Shoes come off at check-in and go in a cabinet there; you can send indoor shoes or slippers.
  • Parents stop at the check-in desk. You can stay and watch while your child settles, but only staff go into the play area.
  • Pack a labeled, nut-free lunchbox if your child will be there over a meal. Drop-in care doesn't provide meals, though snacks are sold on site. The center's tentative Monday-to-Thursday routine puts lunch at 11:45 to 12:30 and dinner at 5:15 to 6.
  • Running late? Let the center know if you'll be more than 30 minutes past your estimate, and check in on the app when you're on your way so your child is ready.
Credentials

Kids Inn is owned by Christina Ford, and the Southlake center's team lead is Dorienne Pendleton. Every staff member is fingerprinted and passes an FBI background check before hire, and all are certified in First Aid and CPR. The company says staff training at each site meets or exceeds the state's minimum standards, and that child-to-caregiver ratios meet state licensing requirements at every location.
