Our take

Galaxy Skate is a roller rink in Grapevine, and skating is the whole point of a visit. The floor is the main event, with an arcade, karaoke rooms and a soft play area around it for the moments when someone needs a break from skating.

The rink posts opening hours, but what runs when is set by a weekly session calendar that it says is subject to change. Families will find daytime Home School Skate sessions with parents admitted free, a half-price After School Skate, afternoon and evening Public Skate, and themed skates through the season. Some evenings are adult-only, so the calendar matters when planning a trip with kids.

For children who want more than laps, the rink sells Learn to Skate lessons in two age groups, one for 10 and under and one for 10 and up, taught by coach Robbin Joynes, and a six-week bundle brings the price down. Birthday packages run from a reserved table for ten guests to the whole rink, and every package includes skate rentals for the guests.

Local Tips

Galaxy Skate is on William D Tate Ave in Grapevine, north-west of DFW Airport and a short drive from Southlake. The calendar changes week to week, so look at it before you go.

  • Check the calendar first. The rink closes to the public for roller-derby practice and private bookings, and some nights are 18 and over only.
  • Sign the waiver at home. Everyone needs a waiver on file before skating, and the rink asks for it to be done before you arrive.
  • Socks are required. Skates go on over socks, and plain socks are sold at the counter if someone forgets.
  • Mind the dress code. The rink keeps a family-friendly dress code and will ask guests to change or cover up.
  • Birthday parents skate free. Every birthday package lets the birthday child's parents skate at no charge.
Credentials

Founder Ashley has skated since age three and opened Galaxy Skate after years of planning. Lessons are taught by coach Robbin Joynes, whom the rink describes as a four-time national speed and figure skating champion.
