Schedule

Year-round lessons at indoor pools, built around short, frequent private lessons. The survival track runs as 10-minute privates on a level ladder:

  • Infant Survival (levels 1–2) — six months to walking age.
  • Swim-Float-Swim (levels 3–4) — walking age and up.
  • Survival Swim Practice (levels 5–5+).

Two scheduling methods are offered — the Classic Method, four private lessons a week, roughly 16–24 lessons for infant submersion and 24–32 for Swim-Float-Swim, and a Gradual Method at one to three a week.

The rest of the ladder:

  • Parent-Tot — a private Gentle Submersion class from eight weeks and a 30-minute group workshop from four months.
  • Stroke Development (levels 6–12) — Intro to Strokes, Stroke School, then Advanced Stroke School through all four strokes, starts and turns, as 10-minute privates or 30-minute groups.
  • Adaptive Aquatics — one-to-one, 10 minutes, at any age, with placement arranged through the scheduling team.
  • Adults — their own level ladder in 20-minute privates.
  • Pre-Competitive Swim Squad — once or twice a week for ages 6–18 who have completed level 12. It does not swim USA Swimming-sanctioned meets, holding in-house Swim Squad Showcases instead.

Group lessons and the Swim Squad run only at the Roanoke pool.

Our take

Flipkick is a survival-swimming school: the core program teaches babies from six months to roll onto their backs to breathe, and toddlers to swim, flip over, float, and swim again — fully clothed, to safety. The method shapes everything about how lessons run. Instead of a weekly half-hour group class, survival students get ten-minute private lessons several times a week, compressed into a couple of months. It's a different rhythm from a typical swim school, and it asks more of a parent's calendar in exchange for faster water-safety results — the school offers a Classic schedule of four lessons a week for families who want it done quickly, and a gradual one to three a week for families who can't.

The school describes its approach as personalized and progressive — pace set by each child rather than a fixed class curriculum — and it doesn't end at survival: graduates move into weekly practice lessons and a stroke ladder that runs through backstroke, butterfly, and endurance work, up to adult lessons. A dedicated Adaptive Aquatics program gives one-to-one lessons at any age, with the school asking families to call so it can match instructor to swimmer by hand. Swimmers who finish the ladder can go on to a pre-competitive Swim Squad, which is candid that it swims in-house showcases rather than sanctioned meets. The school pitches itself well beyond North Richland Hills — its own service-area list runs from Fort Worth through Hurst, Euless, Bedford, Colleyville, Grapevine, and Keller to Southlake — and it's well-reviewed by the families who use it.

Local Tips

In North Richland Hills the pool sits indoors on Boulevard 26 — about a 15–20 minute drive from Southlake — so lessons run year-round regardless of weather. Plan around the survival format: infant and toddler lessons are ten minutes a day, up to four days a week, which means a short but frequent commute for a stretch of weeks rather than one weekly trip. Registration and scheduling run through the Jackrabbit parent portal, and the school runs an opt-in text line for lesson reminders. Which pool you use may not be your choice: group lessons and the Pre-Competitive Swim Squad run only at the Roanoke location, at 751 N HWY 377 northwest of Southlake, so North Richland Hills is private lessons. Both are currently enrolling. Confirm which pool your program runs at when you book.

Credentials

Founder and director Kona Morren grew up a competitive swimmer in the Bay Area — 13 years, starting on a USA Swimming team at age five — and has taught swim lessons since 1992; she coached for Sigma Performance Swimming in Fort Worth and is a USA Swimming coaching member. The instructor bios the school publishes are a mix: one instructor teaching since 2015 who captained her high-school team and swam in college, others with backgrounds in coaching and personal training since 2014. The site describes its survival instructors as certified without naming the certifying program — worth asking when you enroll.
