The required DYS uniform is $89 if needed (two game jerseys, training jersey, shorts, socks); a training jersey alone is $19 at the ULETE retail counter. What's offered

Grade-based 4v4 divisions, Pre-K (age 3+) through 3rd grade, playing entirely at ULETE in Southlake on indoor and outdoor fields. Rosters are 4–8 players so everyone plays, and registration is seasonal through the DYS website.

Our take

Dragon Youth Soccer is Southlake's own small-sided recreation league for the youngest players — Pre-K through 3rd grade — and its two defining choices are easy to explain to another parent. First, everything happens in one place: skills nights, practices, and games all run at ULETE on Dean Way, indoors and out, so there's no cross-town shuttling. Second, the league is deliberately fenced to the community — you register by grade, and eligibility runs through living in Southlake or Westlake, Carroll ISD enrollment, or a handful of Southlake connections like district employment.

The format is built for touches, not standings: 4v4 games with rosters capped between four and eight players so every kid actually plays, a Sunday skills session layered under Saturday game days, and a mercy rule capping blowouts at ten goals. There's still a season arc — the top two teams in each grade play a championship, champions get gold medals, and everyone else takes home silver. This is an entry-point league, not a travel or select program; kids who can already dominate a rec field will outgrow it, which is roughly the point.

Local Tips

The league lives inside ULETE at 2308 Dean Way, and a few practicalities save headaches:

  • Uniforms are mandatory and take up to four weeks to arrive — order at registration and pick up at ULETE; practice nights want the black DYS shirt.
  • Bring a size 3 ball (size 4 for 3rd graders), shin guards, and a water bottle, and arrive 15 minutes early.
  • Registration closes well before the season — late sign-ups only get in if space allows, at a higher fee — and refunds are essentially no-go once you're in.
  • Schedules, scores, and standings live in the Zorts app.
  • If your kid wants to play with classmates, that's allowed: the coach registers first and emails the roster names in, and whole teams from other rec programs can join together.
Carroll ISD Connection

The district tie is written into the rulebook: Carroll ISD enrollment is itself a qualifying way into the league, alongside Southlake/Westlake residency or being the child of a CISD or city employee. The branding runs the same direction — players are "our Dragons," in a league scoped to the families who feed Carroll schools. It isn't a district-operated program, but its eligibility rules make it one of the few local sports leagues literally defined around the Carroll ISD community.

Credentials

Coaching is by parent and family volunteers, up to two per team, under a formal clearance process: a background check plus DYS policy and code-of-conduct completions before approval, with current SafeSport certification accepted in lieu. Approved coaches wear a DYS volunteer badge at practices and games, and referees can ask to see it. The league doesn't name a director or professional training staff on its site; its credentials are the clearance system and the structure of the league itself.
