Our take

Dragon Youth Football (DYF) is the community youth football organization for Southlake, running flag and tackle football for kids plus Lady DYF for girls. It's a nonprofit, board-run program built around participation and sportsmanship rather than elite selection — its stated aim is teaching the game, teamwork, and personal integrity, with families encouraged to be involved. DYF competes in the North Texas Football League against other cities' youth associations, and it plays a signature DYF Night at Dragon Stadium, which ties it into the broader Carroll football culture. It also runs the Dragon Youth Dazzlers drill-and-pom team (listed separately). For a Southlake family, this is the local on-ramp to football — the youth program aligned with the Dragon community — rather than a private skills academy.

Local Tips

A few things to know:

  • DYF splits into flag football, tackle football, and Lady DYF for girls, so start by matching the program to your kid's age and interest.
  • It runs on the SportsEngine platform — registration, schedules, and team communication all live in the parent portal, and there's a Dibs volunteer system, so expect to sign up online and to pitch in.
  • As a community league it competes in the North Texas Football League against nearby cities, and its DYF Night at Dragon Stadium is the marquee event of the season.
  • Coaching is volunteer, through an application process, and there's no fixed storefront, since games and practices run at Dragon Stadium and local fields.
Carroll ISD Connection

Dragon Youth Football isn't run by Carroll ISD, but the connection is closer than most youth clubs: it carries the Dragon name, plays a DYF Night at Carroll's Dragon Stadium, and functions as the community youth-football program for Southlake kids who grow into the Carroll pipeline. It's an independent nonprofit rather than a school program — but for a Southlake family, it's effectively the entry point into Dragon football, aligned with the district's identity even without a formal partnership.

Credentials

Dragon Youth Football is a nonprofit run by a volunteer board, with coaches recruited through an application process rather than a paid staff of professional instructors. Its published emphasis is on safety and sportsmanship — it maintains safety information and operates through a structured registration and parent-portal system. Individual coach backgrounds aren't detailed publicly; as a community organization, its credentials are organizational — board governance, a coach-application process, and stated safety practices — more than individual résumés.
