Monthly tuition: $410/month for CISD residents, $260/month for CISD employees, and $260/month for families who qualify for the federal Free or Reduced Lunch program.
A separate one-time registration/supply fee is $100 per child ($150 per family for CISD employees) and is non-refundable.

Dragon U runs on CISD school days, following the regular school calendar (so it is closed when school is closed, and early-release days are not covered at this time). Care is Monday through Friday from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM at the elementary campuses. It is a full-time, five-day-a-week program billed monthly — there is no part-time or drop-in option. Enrollment is open to any CISD elementary student on a first-come, first-served basis, with a waitlist once a campus reaches capacity.

Our take

Dragon U is Carroll ISD's own after-school program for its elementary students, from pre-K through 4th grade. It runs on school days from dismissal until 5:30 PM, giving working families a place for their child to land after the bell — with a daily snack, homework help, and a rotation of hands-on STEM, arts and crafts, music, games, and free play. Because the district runs it and staffs it with CISD employees, care happens right on the elementary campuses and the program follows the regular school calendar.

It's open to any elementary student who attends CISD. Enrollment is monthly and full-time — the program is built around a five-day week rather than drop-in days — and spots are first-come, first-served, with a waitlist once a campus fills. Monthly tuition runs at one rate for CISD residents and a reduced rate for CISD employees and for families who qualify for the federal free or reduced-lunch program; a separate one-time registration and supply fee applies.

Local Tips

The practical draw is simple: it keeps your elementary student on their own campus until 5:30 PM on school days, with district staff, so there's no second pickup-and-drive to an outside childcare center. A few things worth knowing:

It follows the school calendar, so it's closed when school is closed — and, at least for now, early-release days aren't covered. Line up backup care for those.
It's a full-time, five-day commitment billed monthly through the Procare app, not a drop-in service; there's no part-time option.
The youngest children get more hands — staffing runs at a smaller adult-to-child ratio for the pre-K groups than for the K–4 groups.

Carroll ISD Connection

Dragon U isn't a program connected to Carroll ISD — it *is* Carroll ISD. The district runs it, staffs it with its own employees, holds it on the elementary campuses, and opens it to the students already enrolled there. For a Carroll family, that's the appeal: after-school care inside the same schools your child attends, on the district's calendar, rather than a hand-off to an outside provider.

Credentials

Dragon U is operated by Carroll ISD's Special Programs department and staffed by CISD employees. Caregivers are hired as district staff and, per the program, clear two background checks — one through district HR and one through state daycare licensing — including FBI criminal-history and child-abuse/neglect registry checks. The program states its staff complete CPR, First Aid, and emergency-response training in line with Texas Health and Human Services childcare-licensing standards. Day-to-day questions about enrollment and billing run through the district's childcare coordinator.
