Our take

DFDub teaches tricking — a sport that stitches martial-arts kicks, gymnastics flips, and breakdance-style movement into one acrobatic discipline. If your kid is the type always attempting a backflip off the couch and not that interested in ball sports, this is built for exactly that. No experience is needed; the coaches start beginners on foundations (cartwheels, round-offs) and build toward the flashy stuff — aerials, corks — on a skill-card system that tracks each athlete's next move.

It's a small, mobile program rather than a fixed gym. Six group classes run each week — one in Southlake at Dana's Studio of Dance on Friday, two in Grapevine at Altitude Trampoline Park on Monday and Wednesday — with beginners and advanced trickers in the same session, each working at their own level. That's the tradeoff to weigh: you get real individual attention and a coach on the floor with every athlete, but not a daily drop-in schedule or a facility of their own. The two coaches, Truong and Ian, each have 10-plus years in martial arts and tricking and run every class themselves. Start with the free first class — tricking is unusual enough that one session tells you fast whether your kid lights up or shrugs. Private lessons and camps on days school is out round out the options.

Local Tips

DFDub doesn't have its own building — it runs as a traveling program out of host venues, so the address matters: the Southlake class (Friday) is at Dana's Studio of Dance, and the Grapevine classes (Monday and Wednesday) are at Altitude Trampoline Park. A few practical notes:

  • It's a small schedule (six classes a week, all evenings).
  • The first class is genuinely free.
  • Everything routes through the website — you pick a time and book online.

One thing to confirm before you plan around it:

  • Class pricing isn't posted (you get it after the trial).

And because classes are mixed-level, a brand-new kid trains alongside advanced trickers — the coaches scale the work, but it's worth knowing going in.

Credentials

DFDub was co-founded by two coaches who run every class themselves. Coach Truong, co-founder and head coach, has coached and tricked for over a decade and holds an Exercise Science degree from the University of Texas at Arlington; he has run his own studio, served as head coach at martial-arts schools, and created the DFDub "Skill Card" progression system the program is built around, with a focus on conditioning and injury rehab. Coach Ian Gray, co-founder and coach, has coached since 2010, is a 3rd-degree black belt in Taekwondo and a three-time Texas State Champion in sparring, and has served as head coach and kick specialist at two large martial-arts schools — Universal Martial Arts & Hapkido and White Tiger Martial Arts in Cary, North Carolina.
