Our take

Dentistry 4 Children is a single-dentist practice, and the dentist who opened it in Southlake, Dr. Rohini Bajaj, is still the one doing the work. Kids call her Dr. Ro. The office sees infants through young adults, so a family can stay with one dentist from the first tooth onward, and the practice is well-reviewed by a large number of families.

The strongest practical reason to choose it is the range of sedation on offer. Alongside nitrous oxide, the practice lists oral conscious sedation, IV sedation in the office, and general anesthesia in a hospital for a child who needs extensive work or can't get through treatment awake. For a child who has had a rough time in the chair, or who needs a lot done at once, that matters more than any waiting-room perk. Families of children with special needs are asked to share medical history and sensory preferences when they book, and the office will set aside a longer visit.

Day to day it is a low-key office: a play area with books and toys, a front desk that advertises Hablamos Español, and a dentist who, by the practice's own account, makes sure parents know what is being done and why.

Local Tips

The office is a suite on W Southlake Blvd by Bicentennial Park. There's no online scheduler: you book by calling or by sending a message through the site's contact form.

  • Do the paperwork at home. New patient forms can be filled out before the visit; doing them in the office means arriving 10 to 15 minutes early. Bring the insurance card, and have any X-rays from a previous dentist sent over ahead of time.
  • Mornings for the little ones. The practice suggests booking young children in the morning, when they're fresher, and older kids in the afternoon or after school.
  • A tour first is fine. A nervous child can visit the office and meet the staff before the first appointment, and can bring a favorite toy or blanket on the day.
  • Plan the rest of the day around treatment. Most kids go back to school after nitrous. After oral conscious sedation, or after an extraction, the practice recommends keeping them home to rest.
