Our take

Dallas Surf is the North Texas club in the national Surf soccer family, and it runs a full youth pathway rather than a single program. It starts with Little Surfers for ages three to five — movement, coordination, and ball work with no pressure — moves into the Junior Academy and Academy, where kids get their first team environment without tryouts, and then opens into competitive soccer: Select teams that play in local DFW leagues, an MLS NEXT boys track, and a Girls Academy program, all of which you try out for. Because it's a club rather than a facility, it trains on rented school, park, and church fields organized into regional divisions across the Metroplex; the group nearest Southlake is its West division, based at Christ's Haven in Keller with additional sites in Grapevine and Westlake. Dues, uniform costs, and tryout dates are posted by program, so families can see what each level commits to before signing up. It's a good fit for a family that wants a recognized competitive pathway and is willing to travel to a training site; it's not a drop-in or a neighborhood rec league.

Local Tips

A few practical notes for a Southlake-area family:

  • Dallas Surf has no field of its own — it's an itinerant club. For families near Southlake, the relevant home base is the West division at Christ's Haven in Keller, with additional training at Cross Timbers Middle School in Grapevine and Westlake Academy.
  • It's a large DFW-wide club with several regional divisions, so confirm which site and division your child's age group trains at before you commit — locations vary by team.
  • Tryouts for competitive teams run in the spring (elite tryouts from mid-April, competitive tryouts from mid-May), and the club offers a free first week of training to try it out.
  • Registration runs through PlayMetrics. Dues are posted by program and range widely — an entry-level Academy month is modest, while a full competitive-season commitment (Select, MLS NEXT, Girls Academy) runs into the thousands, plus uniform kits and a registration fee.
  • Summer camps run at Christ's Haven in Keller across three weeks in June and July, at $160 a week.
Credentials

Dallas Surf is run as a full club organization with a named leadership team — an Executive Director, a Managing Director, and Directors of Coaching and technical development — and a coaching staff the club numbers at more than 40. It describes its coaching as licensed, and it fields dedicated program directors for its goalkeeping, MLS NEXT, and Girls Academy tracks. The club doesn't publish individual coaches' licenses or playing backgrounds, so families evaluating a specific team will want to ask about that team's head coach directly.
