Upcoming school-break camps listed in D-BAT DFW's online registration (D-BAT Hub), each starting at 10 AM: a School's Out 2-Day Camp, November 2–3; a Thanksgiving Camp, November 23–25; a Holiday 3-Day Camp, December 21–23; a 5-Day Holiday Camp from Monday, December 28; and an MLK Day Camp on January 18, 2027. The 2026 summer camp series ran seven week-long sessions (June 1–August 7, ages 6–12, 10 AM–3 PM, lunch provided); the academy hosts 50+ camps, clinics, and classes a year.

Our take

D-BAT DFW is a baseball and softball training academy, and the distinction that matters is right there: it's a place to get better, not a team or a league. It's the Southlake unit of the national D-BAT brand, so the model is a familiar one — an indoor, climate-controlled facility built around instruction, batting cages with pitching machines that throw real balls, memberships, and a heavy camp calendar.

The core is private lessons. A staff of hitting and pitching instructors works with players at every level, and the academy deliberately pulls parents into the lesson rather than parking them in the lobby, on the logic that the coaches can't be at the games and need the feedback. Around the lessons sit cage time you can book by the hour or use freely as a member, and a busy slate of school-break camps and one-skill clinics. Who it isn't for: a family looking for a team to play on or a rec league to join — D-BAT trains the player, and the games happen somewhere else.

Local Tips

D-BAT is on South Nolen Drive. A couple of things set expectations:

  • The membership choice is the main decision: the lower tier suits a kid who mostly wants to hit on the machines about once a week, while the higher tier is built for a player taking a weekly lesson and bundles unlimited machine time with a lesson discount — so which one pencils out depends on whether you're buying reps or coaching.
  • Lesson and cage-rental rates are posted on the Pricing page by membership tier, and walk-ins are welcome at the non-member rate; only camp and clinic rates go unposted, so call for those.
  • Camps cluster on school breaks — MLK Day, the February and April school's-out days, Spring Break, and Memorial Day, with summer camps on top — which makes the academy a common school's-out landing spot for a ballplayer.
Credentials

D-BAT DFW's lessons are taught by a staff of hitting and pitching instructors — Toni Goodman, Dave Klipstein, Dalton Brown, Rachelle Ohlhaber, Casey Young, Mike Ordieres, Taylor Kennedy, and Ty Cannon — who work with players at every level; the academy's stated method brings the parent into the lesson for feedback, since the instructors don't see the player in real games. Each publishes a bio card on the lessons page. Dave Klipstein's lists 35 years in professional baseball: seven as a minor-league player in the Reds and Brewers organizations, 14 years of amateur and 14 of professional scouting, and three World Series titles as a scout, with the Red Sox in 2007 and 2013 and the Cubs in 2016. Toni Goodman's lists an Associate of Science, a bachelor's in biology and kinesiology and a master's in educational administration, playing at Texas A&M, and coaching select and high school teams; she teaches pitching, hitting and fielding. The others list college playing careers: Dalton Brown at TCU (two College World Series, 2016 and 2017), Rachelle Ohlhaber at the University of Illinois (NCAA All-Regional team, 2004), Casey Young at North Texas and Hardin-Simmons (now a baseball coach at Hillcrest High School), Mike Ordieres at Dallas Christian College, Taylor Kennedy at Ottawa University in Kansas, and Ty Cannon at Arkansas Tech, who is also the academy's assistant general manager and camp director. The Southlake location operates under the national D-BAT brand and its training system. None of the eight cards lists a formal coaching certification.
