Our take

Creative Soul is the Southlake studio of a family-owned DFW music school, and it leans hard on being a real school rather than a side gig — mostly earning it. Instead of a lone in-home teacher who cancels when they're sick, you get a full faculty (the company puts it at nearly fifty instructors across its locations), multiple pianos and instruments on site, and a structured path from a first lesson to a public performance. All staff clear a background check and interview, and the school is well-reviewed by a large number of local families.

It's built for kids — and adults — who want lessons to actually stick, with the emphasis on keeping a player engaged rather than grinding through drills. That's backed by recitals, a Rock & Worship band program open from age eight up with no experience required, and performance slots at DFW venues like Bass Hall and The Palace. The lesson-room doors have large observation windows, so you can watch how your kid is being taught. Instruments run the full range — piano, guitar, voice, drums, violin, bass, and more — private and scheduled around your week.

Who it's for: families who want the reliability and range of a full studio over a solo tutor, and who like being able to move between several nearby locations. If you're after one dedicated teacher in your living room, this isn't that. If you want depth, a real performance calendar, and after-school-friendly hours a few minutes from Town Square, it fits — and there's a summer camp track and music birthday parties if you want more than weekly lessons.

Local Tips

The Southlake studio sits in the 280 Commerce complex off Commerce St, which the school notes is convenient to State Hwy 114 and 26 and near Emler Swim School and Southlake Gymnastics Academy — an easy pairing if you're already shuttling kids to that cluster. The lesson-room doors have large observation windows, so parents can watch. Hours are built for after-school and evening lessons — weekday afternoons into the evening, plus Saturday mornings — and the school runs its own free student concerts on top of slots at bigger local venues. Lessons are private and individually scheduled, so start by requesting a time for your instrument.

Credentials

Creative Soul Music School was founded in 2006 by Casey and Samantha Thomas, a husband-and-wife team, and remains family-owned across its DFW locations. Casey came to the piano at nineteen and studied music while earning a Hospitality Management degree at the University of North Texas, building the school around a vision of a community where kids and adults learn music together; a 2018 Voyage Dallas interview tells the same story in his own words. Samantha, originally from Houston, is a singer-songwriter and a certified Texas teacher with an Early Childhood Education degree from Texas A&M, and spent time in Nashville's songwriting community after college. The Southlake studio at 280 Commerce St is staffed by the company's faculty — experienced, professional teachers and working musicians, each cleared through a background check and interview. Instruction spans piano, guitar, voice, drums, violin, bass, and more, with students performing at venues including Bass Hall and The Palace.
