Pricing works differently for the leagues than for the instructional programs.

  • The fall flag football league is priced by residency — $170 for Southlake residents, $214 for non-residents — with registration closing August 17; the fee covers a Nike reversible game jersey, a custom flag belt for each new player, and a football for each team.
  • The instructional programs and camps at Champions Club are sold through the ACTIVE Net portal, which publishes two rates for every session: a lower rate for Champions Club members and a higher one for non-members, consistent with the 20% member discount on Champions Club programs stated on the membership page.
  • Per monthly block those are $70/$85 for Basketball Skills Academy levels 1–2, $75/$90 for levels 3–4, $80/$100 for the Volleyball Skills Academy, $105/$130 for Soccer Sparks, and $135/$165 for Jiu-Jitsu Junior Warriors and Advanced Leaders, with the youngest Little Guardians track at $110/$140.
  • Refunds on City athletic programs must be requested in writing at least seven days before the program start date, after which the City does not issue one, and a $25 administrative fee applies per item if a uniform has already been ordered.

What's offered

The Athletics Division runs two different things, in two different kinds of building.

The seasonal leagues play on Saturdays:

  • Fall RISE Flag Football — divisions by grade (Kindergarten–2nd, 3rd–4th, 5th–6th, 7th–8th) at North Park, an eight-game regular season from mid-September through early November with playoffs the following week.
  • Fall Girls Volleyball — 9U, 11U and 13U divisions, age calculated as of September 1, with practice starting the week of September 14.
  • Winter Basketball — 7U, 9U, 11U and 13U, with individual and team registration options, from early December through a February playoff.

Indoor league games are played in Carroll ISD buildings — the big and small gyms at Carroll and Dawson middle schools, Durham and Eubanks intermediate schools, and the court at the Carroll Admin Building — with outdoor play at North Park and Southlake Sports Complex.

Separately, the instructional programs run indoors at Champions Club and enroll as separately-purchased monthly blocks rather than a continuous term:

  • Basketball Skills Academy — four levels stepped by age (4–5, 6–7, 8–9, 10–14).
  • Basketball Small Group Training.
  • Volleyball Skills Academy.
  • Soccer Sparks — for the youngest ages.
  • Jiu-Jitsu — three named tracks (Little Guardians, Junior Warriors, Advanced Leaders).
  • Athletic Sports Summer Camps — four-day Monday–Thursday blocks across the summer.

For both volleyball and winter basketball, practice times are not published in advance: they are selected at a coaches meeting (the fall volleyball meeting is held in Legends Hall, the flag football one at Champions Club, both on the Shady Oaks Drive campus), and winter basketball teams must additionally purchase a practice bundle after registering. Schedules, standings, division listings and field-closure status live on the league portal at teamsideline.com/southlake; program and camp registration runs through the City's ACTIVE Net portal.

Our take

The City of Southlake runs its own youth sports in-house, and that makes this the plainest way into organized athletics in town. Three seasonal leagues carry most of it — flag football and girls volleyball in the fall, basketball over the winter — and each is built around a single Saturday rather than a week of evenings. Flag football is the clearest statement of the model: an eight-game season plus playoffs, six-on-six on a short field, rosters held between eight and twelve so every registered child plays every game, and no tryouts or drafts anywhere in it. Teams form from friend and coach requests, and a child signed up alone is placed with kids from similar schools or neighborhoods. Practice is voluntary and happens on game day, which the league pitches directly at multi-sport families.

The competitive question gets an unusually honest answer here. Flag football divisions default to combined play, and a competitive division exists only if enough teams choose to designate themselves that way — and only those teams can qualify for the national tournament. The league states outright that good teams exist in the recreational divisions regardless. The city's own basketball league has done the same at 11U in a past season, scheduling a recreational and a competitive division alongside each other. A family that wants a path toward tournament play can find one; a family that wants a Saturday morning and nothing further is not being quietly sorted out of it.

Alongside the leagues, the city runs instructional programs at Champions Club: basketball skills academies stepped by age from four upward, a volleyball academy, an entry-level soccer program for the youngest ages, and jiu-jitsu in three age tracks. Those enroll as monthly blocks rather than a full season, which suits testing a sport before committing to a league. Coaching across every league is volunteer parents, background-checked by the city.

Local Tips

The two halves of this operation live in different buildings, and that is the thing most worth getting straight before you register: the leagues play in Carroll ISD gyms and at North Park, while every skills academy, camp and jiu-jitsu block runs at Champions Club. A few other things a first-year family tends to learn late:

  • Practice times for volleyball and winter basketball are not published anywhere — they are chosen at the coaches meeting, so you cannot know your weeknight slot before you commit; winter basketball teams also have to buy a practice bundle separately, after registering.
  • Field and game status is posted on teamsideline.com/southlake rather than emailed — weekdays by 4 pm, and by 8 am Saturday and 11 am Sunday on game weekends. The city also keeps a recorded field-closure line, which the adopted policy treats as the authoritative weekend channel, so it is the one to call if the site looks stale.
  • The fall flag football calendar has a bye built into it for annual field maintenance, and rain makeups are scheduled on the opposite days from Carroll's varsity football games — so a washed-out Saturday can reappear on a weeknight.
  • The city closes all its athletic fields through December and January, and takes another twelve days in June, so the outdoor seasons are genuinely bounded rather than year-round.
  • Refunds have a hard edge: requests must be in writing at least seven days before the program starts, and once a uniform has been ordered a $25 administrative fee applies per registration.
  • Registration opens on a stagger: Southlake residents can sign up two weeks ahead of non-residents — June 1 against June 15 for fall flag football — so residency buys a head start on top of the lower resident fee.
  • Registering late for flag football does not cost you the season, but the uniform may not arrive until week two or three.
Carroll ISD Connection

The tie here is operational rather than ceremonial. The city's indoor leagues play inside Carroll ISD buildings — the big and small gyms at Carroll and Dawson middle schools, Durham and Eubanks intermediate, and the court at the old Carroll Middle School on North Carroll Avenue — so a Southlake child's Saturday game is usually in a school they already know their way around. The flag football league also sets its inclement-weather makeup days on the opposite days from Carroll Dragon varsity football, which means the city's youth calendar is built around the high school's rather than colliding with it.

Credentials

The Athletics Division sits within the City of Southlake Parks & Recreation Department, run by Athletics Supervisor Jonathan Weeks — who also serves as the RISE flag football league commissioner — and Athletics Coordinator Chad Tucker. Coaching is entirely volunteer: all head and assistant coaches must clear a City of Southlake background check, valid for one calendar year across every city sport, and wear a visible coach's badge at games and practices. The city states that no prior coaching experience is required, and puts the volleyball league's weekly commitment at about two hours.
