What's offered

Weekly classes on a nine-month cycle that parallels the school year (September–May), grouped by age and skill: Tiny Hands (ages 3–4), Introduction to Art (5–6), Beginning Art (7–8), and Art 1, also published as Drawing Foundations (ages 9 and up), with higher levels (Art 2, Art 3, Advanced Art) available by prerequisite, plus a homeschool class for ages 5 and up. Classes meet once a week at a fixed day and time — weekday classes in the afternoon and evening, Saturday classes mid-morning to early afternoon. Class lengths run from 45 minutes (Tiny Hands) to 1 hour 15 minutes (Beginning Art and up), with small caps of 6–12 students by level. A free trial class is offered on Fridays. The studio posts the current year's class schedule on its own site; register and see current day-and-time openings through the studio's online booking system.

Our take

Children's Art Classes enrolls kids into an age-and-skill level — Tiny Hands for the youngest, then Introduction to Art, Beginning Art, and a multi-year drawing-and-painting track — and moves them through it over nine-month sessions that follow the school year. Each level carries prerequisites and a defined set of techniques to master, so drawing and painting skills accumulate in sequence.

Classes are capped from six to twelve depending on level, so there is real instructor attention, and the studio is run by a local owner who left a long career to open it. A nine-month enrollment suits the kid who draws constantly and wants to get better at it; it does not suit come-when-you-can art time.

Credentials

Children's Art Classes Grapevine is a locally run franchise studio, opened by Becki Brandenburg, who left a 27-year career as an Arlington police officer to start it. Instruction comes from working artists: Esteban Cabascango holds a bachelor's in visual arts from the University of Richmond, is active in the Dallas art community, and specializes in animation and storyboarding; Linda Disosway earned a fine-arts degree from the University of North Texas and has taught across the Dallas metroplex since 1995. The curriculum is the national Children's Art Classes program — a sequential drawing-and-painting method taught in small, age-graded classes.
