Our take

Champions Club is the city's recreation center, and the thing that gets missed about it is how much of it is built for kids. The aquatics center alone carries a zero-depth leisure pool, a toddler play pool kept at ninety degrees, a current-fed river channel, a spa, and two-story racing water slides with a timer so kids can race each other down. Upstairs and out from there: an actual indoor playground with its own posted hours, a two-court gymnasium, thirty-five yards of indoor turf and fifty of lighted outdoor turf, and a sixteenth-mile indoor track. It is a fitness facility — cardio floor, free weights, sixty-plus group classes a week — but for a family the pool-and-playground half is the draw.

The model is what separates it from a commercial gym. It's a membership priced as a civic amenity, not a per-visit gate fee: Southlake residents pay a discounted rate, with no start-up or cancellation fees. That math rewards the family that will actually come weekly and punishes the one looking for a one-off rainy afternoon — though a free day pass exists precisely so you can find out which one you are before committing. The quiet advantage is Lil' Champs Child Watch: on-site childcare included with membership, the difference between a parent theoretically having a gym and a parent using one. If you want a year-round pool, playground, gym, and courts under one roof that your kids grow into rather than out of, it's a strong-value option; if you only want to drop in once and leave, look elsewhere.

Local Tips

Champions Club sits at The Marq on Shady Oaks Drive, on the city campus it shares with Legends Hall and the Senior Activity Center, minutes from Town Square. The single most useful thing to know: the building is open 102 hours a week, but the amenities your kids came for are not. A few things worth knowing before you go:

  • The Indoor Playground, the Aquatics Center, Child Watch, and The Courts each keep their own posted hours, narrower than the facility's — check the specific amenity before you drive over, because "Champions Club is open" and "the playground is open" are different questions.
  • The pool watches the weather for you: a Perry Weather sensor closes it the moment lightning is detected within ten miles, and it stays closed until thirty clear minutes pass, with a countdown on the website — worth a look before a summer swim.
  • Lil' Champs Child Watch takes ages six weeks through nine, but it closes midday (roughly 1–3 pm) and all day Sunday.
  • The fitness floor itself is closed to under-12s, so the gym is the grown-up half of the building while the pool and playground are the kids'.
  • For birthdays, the party rooms cap at 40 people, you get two hours in the room plus an hour in the playground or pool, and outside food and drink are allowed — just no confetti or tape.
Credentials

Champions Club is operated by the City of Southlake Parks and Recreation Department as part of The Marq Southlake — a municipal facility under city governance rather than a privately owned or single-coach program. Programming is delivered by department staff: certified group-fitness and personal-training instructors (membership includes an InBody fitness assessment through the Fitness Kickstart program), supervised Lil' Champs Child Watch attendants, and an aquatics team running the Learn to Swim program under Aquatics Coordinator Maddy Martin. Memberships, program registration, and rentals run through the City's Parks & Rec system.
